5 Ohio Lakes Perfect for Boating & Fishing

Ohioans it’s that time of year again, you know, when we start getting ready for the boating and fishing season! Did you know the Buckeye State has 5,000 lakes? With so many lakes to choose from, we’re fortunate to have these lakes to enjoy in Northeast Ohio:

Tappan Lake & Salt Fork Lake

Let’s start with Tappan Lake and Salt Fork Lake, which are located in Harrison and Guernsey counties. First, the size of these lakes are impressive with Tappan having 2,350 acres of water and Salt Fork having 2,952 acres.

  • Tappan Lake has a 399 horsepower limit, but Salt Fork Lake has no limit
  • You can jet ski, slalom ski or traditional ski at either lake
  • Tappan Lake is great for catching largemouth or white bass, bullgill, or channel catfish
  • Salt Fork offers muskellunge, crappie or sunfish

The Portage and Turkeyfoot Lakes

The Portage and Turkeyfoot lakes are based in Akron, Ohio, encompassing 2,034 acres of water. These unique lakes are joined together by the way of 8 lakes. The north side of the lakes is Turkeyfoot, and the southwest side is Portage Lake.

  • The lakes have a 400 horsepower limit
  • Boat launching can be done from either lake

Atwood Lake

Atwood Lake is based in Carroll County, Ohio. It’s a great place to enjoy a family day out on the lake, or fish for yellow perch.

  • 25 horsepower limit
  • Activities include: sailing, boating, fishing, swimming
  • You can rent pontoons, fishing boats, kayaks, tubes and more from Atwood Lake Boats
